Fire can only be prevented by detecting a dangerous temperature rise
A range of different materials are stored in waste incineration plants (plastics, textiles, paints, household waste, etc.). During this storage period, chemical processes may occur inside the stored waste. These chemical reactions may lead to such an increase in temperature that smouldering fires break out. If these fires are not tackled quickly, widespread fires may develop.
Uncontrollable waste fires lead to the development of dangerous levels of toxic flue gases. This often causes considerable damage both to the environment and to the waste incineration plant itself. Furthermore, the fire brigade forces will have great difficulty trying to bring the smouldering fires (embers) under control.
A fire can only be prevented through the detection of a dangerous increase in temperature. If the source of the fire is located, an automatic or manual extinguishing procedure can then be activated. A mixture of water and extinguishing foam concentrate is used as the extinguishing agent. The extinguishing agent is sprayed with manual, remote-controlled or automatic foam monitors.
